Community

Even before becoming an independent agency in January 2017, the team at Julie Harris Realty had wanted to give back to the communities that they work in. Realising that some of the income they generated from the sale of properties in those local areas could benefit a wide range of deserving causes, clubs and services; they are proud to call themselves genuine contributors to the communities they operate in.

Julie has been involved as a member and supporter with the Rotary Club of Carindale for 10 years. As well as regular attendance to breakfast meetings, volunteer work and committee responsibilities; Julie has been guest speaker on a number of occasions delivering presentations on the real estate market.

Glenn has been a member of the Lions Club of Camp Hill/Carindale for over 10 years including a spell as Vice President. He loves to participate in the fortnightly meetings and is a keen fund raiser for local causes.

Sponsoring local sports clubs and teams has been something we have enjoyed immensely, and team members are always ‘bowled over’ by the positive feedback and gratitude we receive from the players.

Julie has been a regular sponsor and supporter of the Pacific Golf Club (Carindale) since
2011 and Glenn has been a member of the Belmont Bowls Club in Carina since 2011.

Both of them have sponsored a variety of mens and ladies competitions with gifts or cash donations which have been gratefully received; and they have happily donated their time for awards and presentation nights.

Through his Lions Club membership, Glenn has also been main sponsor of the Southern Districts Basketball (Carina) Spartans team – supporting at local matches and helping with fund raising.

Sponsor of the Mates 4 Mates’ Golf Day

Glenn’s friend Drewe Freeburn, one of our local residents and strongly connected in the apparel industry, has organised this annual event for many years with proceeds going to this very deserving charity. Julie Harris Realty is a proud sponsor of the annual Golf Day and will be donating and presenting prizes at the 2022 event.

Through our friend Genevieve Robey, Communications Officer for B4C (Bulimba Creek Catchment Co-Ordinating Committee)
we were offered the opportunity to pay for some badly needed nesting boxes in the Belmont Hills to Minnippi fauna corridor. How could we refuse? After finding prime real estate in the local area for so many people; it was the obvious thing to provide the same service to our furry and feathered friends! Getting updates on the regular monitoring of the boxes means we keep up to date with who the latest tenants are, and we can check that they’re keeping the place tidy.

Two projects came about when we opened our first office in Mount Gravatt East. The location of the office nestled in the midst of a residential suburb had a great community vibe and we have been made to feel very welcome.

Our connections to this community have led to us being supporter and Platinum sponsor of local primary school St Agnes’ Movie Night in September 2021. With the uncertainty brought about by ongoing covid restrictions, the P & C had not been able to organise their usual fundraising annual fete and had called out to local businesses for help. The team at JHR very much enjoyed being part of this event and ongoing support for this local school.

In 2021, we embarked on supporting a local charity the Lovewell Foundation who operate the cafe on Mount Gravatt Outlook. This is a fabulous local cause that turns people’s lives around and we were very proud to be able to offer our support. Whether spending time assisting someone in securing accommodation, sponsoring events or just holding our weekly sales meetings at the cafe; our original intention was to spread awareness for this worthy cause.

In August 2021, Julie was very proud to be named ‘Ambassador’ for the Lovewell Foundation and following our support of a fundraising event at the café where the Foundation urged attendees to voice what they could do to help; the JHR team got together to determine how we as a local business could support this charity. Immediately we organised a charity auction (We are real estate agents after all!) and prizes were sourced from a number of generous businesses and tickets sold to the event. Our target was to raise $10,000 on that night in November. Thanks to a room full of generous supporters, we were blown away by raising $24,000 on the night.

At the same time, the ‘4122 initiative’ was born – whereby JH Realty committed to donating $1000 for each property settled in the suburbs bearing that postcode. $1000 is the cost for one of those vulnerable women to complete the 8 week ‘Better Futures’ course run by Lovewell Foundation.
